Halloweekend & Disney

Friday night we went out to a Halloween party!

We went as a flapper, a Greek goddess, a hippy, a cavewoman, and Occupy Wallstreet’s 1%.

Yesterday we weren’t planning on going anywhere because it was a snowy mess outside and all we wanted to do was lounge around and drink hot cocoa.

The pictures make the weather look tamer than it actually was. I assure you it was completely disgusting outside. It definitely felt more like Christmas than Halloween.

But, we eventually decided that we were tough enough to brave the elements for the two minute walk to the car.

I didn’t take pictures at the actual party but Danielle and I dressed up as a cop and a cat and we ended up having a lot of fun!

The best update from the weekend though…

…is that I’m running the Disney World Half-Marathon!

My grandma booked a flight for me to come down to Florida in January for about a week. With the recently horrible weather in NYC, I’m definitely looking forward to it!

And I’m definitely looking forward to seeing these two wonderful people! Thank you grandma and grandpa xoxo!

Question: Have you ever been to Disney? Despite how close my grandparents live to Disney World, I haven’t been since I was about three years old!

Weekly Recap

A lot has happened in a week! In case you didn’t gather from last week’s post, I went to see Coldplay at Rockefeller Center last Friday! We got a total of approximately 1 hour of sleep but it was definitely worth it.

Getting through the day’s classes and everything was a struggle but nothing a pumpkin spice latte couldn’t handle.

Later on in the day we helped out at the men’s soccer game by barbecuing and giving away awesome ear warmers.

After the game we all went to a step show and then Lizzy and I hung out for a while before I hit the pillow for a much needed 12 hours.

Saturday night we went out downtown but I have absolutely no pictures from the night. It was a lot of fun though!

Sunday was a laid back homework kind of day, but also an exciting day because I finally got an iPhone!

And Monday was full of meetings. I attended an event for Senator Richard Lugar via my internship, followed by our first College Republicans meeting which Councilman Dan Halloran attended and spoke at, followed by a student government floor meeting. I missed both of my classes (with permission), but my day was still extremely productive.

Tuesday was the men’s first basketball game against CW Post, STJ won 110-80!

Wednesday during the day I didn’t have to go into my internship so I worked from home and was able to squeeze in an awesome run! My friend Frank and I ran to the park and playground to swing on the swings.

In total we ran a little over 4 miles at a 7:45 pace! Speedy!

Later on was another men’s soccer game against Rutgers. We helped Redzone (STJ’s student government school spirit committee) with another giveaway, snazzy t-shirts for all the students!

This was the first time I saw St. John’s lose, but it was a really great game!

Yesterday was a school/gym/working from home internship day, nothing too exciting, and now that it’s Friday we’re getting ready for Halloweekend!

Can you guess what I’m being?

A Pan Am stewardess! I bought a hideous cheap dress and used my sewing skills to make a skirt. I also took advantage of my art class’s supplies to make a pin.

If you’re celebrating Halloween have fun and be safe!

Mom In Manhattan & The High Line Park

This weekend my mom came down to the city! After doing some browsing at Lord and Taylor on Saturday, we hopped in a cab and went out to dinner at Josie’s West. I had the butternut squash ravioli and she had the shrimp with organic “un-fried” rice. Both dishes were incredible! Thank you to my mom for gracing my taste buds with something other than dining hall food or Chinese takeout.

After dinner, we walked down to Columbus Circle and to Whole Foods. I had a muffin for dessert while my Mom and I sat and chatted for a long while before parting ways.

Sunday morning Danielle, Lizzy, and I headed all the way uptown to my uncle’s apartment to meet my mom and sister for brunch. We used Whole Foods 365 brand whole wheat pancake mix to make plain, blueberry, and chocolate chip pancakes along with fresh strawberries and pure maple syrup. Yum!

This morning I dragged myself out of bed for a nice 2.5 mile run under beautiful blue skies and a bright, warm sun. I’ll definitely be sad when this weather is gone!

To fully take advantage of what’s sure to be one of the last summer-like days in New York, Oscar and I made a quick trip to the city to check out the High Line Park.

The High Line Park was originally an elevated railway that ran through the lower west side of Manhattan.

When the demand for freight transportation took a nosedive, the railroad was no longer needed and ended up being partially demolished and abandoned.

Eventually the idea to develop a park from what remained took hold and the creatively designed High Line Park was the result.

Thanks to @oscdz for all the photos!

The remainder of my day from about 4:00 on has consisted mainly of studying for my upcoming midterms. I’m feeling positive about them!

Weekend Recap

Happy Sunday!

I don’t usually go to my internship on Fridays but this Friday I came in to help prep for our board meeting on Saturday. Danielle interns about two blocks away from me so we left early and walked around for awhile to soak up the beautiful weather.

I came back in the afternoon to go to my classes and then the weekend started off with a trip to Rutgers for the women’s soccer game. St. John’s kicked butt winning 1-0!

On the way back we took numerous photobooth pictures:

When we got back, Danielle, Oscar, Lizzy and I headed out to a party for a while.

Saturday morning I was up relatively early for the board meeting. It was held in a building near Central Park with a gorgeous view!

Our photographer cancelled on us with very short notice so I was designated photographer for the day! I borrowed a camera but if anyone wants to get me a gift or something I’ll take a Canon DSLR please. And a replacement iPhone.

After a long and productive (and also fun!) four and a half hours, we finally finished the meeting and went to a nearby hotel bar to hang out. After spending some time there, the other intern and I headed out. Before parting ways we stopped at Fluffy’s Cafe & Bakery for something sweet. I got a peanut butter brownie which was to die for. Seriously rich and satisfying!

The roomies and I had plans to go out after I got back but we ended up staying in and just hanging out. Unfortunately the fire alarm went off at about 1:30 in the morning but other than that it was a relaxing night.

Overall it was definitely a good weekend!

Now I’m off to finish a paper for theology…
